MBTA EDACS Radio System Tower Site Expansion
Primary Site and microwave location was changed from the existing location due to transmission alignment and network malfunction.
John Hancock Tower, Quincy Tower, High St. Tower.
Installation of 800MHz system to non-revenue vehicles and Rail Cars, MBTA
Upgrade all ancillary equipment in 300 service vehicles and 500 rail cars from 400MHz to 800MHz.
Site Surveys to Observe Rail Car Tunnel Radios, Portable Radios, Coax and Radiax Cable Systems, SCADA, Emergency Exits and Call-Boxes for Radio System Coverage Remediation, MBTA
We established required documentation from real-time walk-throughs of heavy rail and light rail tunnel systems, exits, niches, vent systems, and belowground offices.
This task required a portable radio to measure and document the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) within a subterranean environment. We completed 400MHz and 800MHz testing during this effort.
EDACS Network Refresh, MBTA
Radio system showed network intermittence, and was determined to be faulty by end-users.
Managed a technical team to deep-dive into the network aspect of a radio system. It was determined the Cisco Network equipment was end-of-life and required a netwok system re-build.
Prepare Bid & Award - (4,300) 800MHz portable radios, MBTA
Change from the Motorola radio system to the EDACS radio system for Operations. Transit Police will remain on the Motorola radio system that the Massachusetts State system communicates on (COMIRS).
A new distribution system was required to program "personalities" into each new radio and provide a new portable radio for each required end-user.
Microwave Upgrade, MBTA
6gigabit buildout, point-to-point communications from the head-end location to the John Hancock Tower.
As the executive team lead, I upgraded the T1 network system to a faster more reliable one.
The T1.54mb microwave application guaranteed a mean-time-to-failure rate of 99.99999%, which a Transportation Authority should have for both primary and backup systems.
Prepare Bid & Award - (15,000+) Extended Life Portable Radio Batteries, MBTA
Service radio batteries typically hold up to 8 hours when fully charged.
In this busy environment, people often forget to charge their batteries, so extended-life batteries were essential, and we successfully explored that opportunity.
Research and develop subway system compatible BDA's, MBTA
Existing 800MHz cable systems and networks were poorly installed and inadequately tested.
No maintenance agreements existed for the Andrews-Comscope BDAs, and the existing BDA systems were not tuned and spaced according to radio BDA specs.
Extensively researched BDA manufacturers and various test-case scenarios, and I met with a manufacturer capable of combining the MBTA 800MHz frequency into a specially manufactured BDA, making it compatible with any vendor-type BDA aboveground or below ground.
Mobile Data Terminals Design/Build/Install, MBTA
Transit Police sought to expand the sophistication of a mobile console to receive private data records of individuals stopped.
I engaged a company capable of installing transportation scanning devices and procured the system currently in operation.
Design/Build of L3HARRIS P25 Radio System, Critical Communications for Transit Police, Rail & Bus Operations (CCTRB), MBTA
Planned, and procured a $200M radio system project which expands the radio system and coverage throughout the entire state of Massachusetts for public safety and rail communication. (11) new tower sites were added along with a new OCC and head-end equipment.
